“The expected passage of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act is tremendous news for New York State. From helping to rebuild outdated bridges in Upstate New York to preventing massive funding cuts that would have hurt millions of public transit riders, this bill provides important support to our state’s infrastructure. And with more stable and long term funding than New York has seen in previous years, it is an important investment in the Empire State’s future.”

“There’s no doubt about it, major victories for the Big Apple’s roads, subways and bus systems were at the core of this bill. As a conferee on this major transportation bill, I am very pleased we restored funding for critical transit-funding programs the House of Representatives slashed, and that we increased overall transportation funding that will help New York City and the regional economy. The regional economy is the very heart of our nation’s economy and our transportation systems are the lifeblood that make it all possible. Investing to maintain and improve those transportation systems boosts our economy in the near- and long-term and that’s exactly what government should be doing to keep our improving economy humming.”

“As hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers take to the roads for the holidays, more than a third of our state’s bridges are in need of repair, but bureaucratic federal policy actually prevents our state from investing in repairs for many of these bridges. I’m pleased this new measure I introduced is headed to the President’s desk to become law, so that we can finally give states the flexibility to spend federal transportation dollars where they’re needed most, including on repairs for thousands of locally owned bridges across the state. I will continue to fight to ensure that New York receives the resources it needs to maintain and improve our critical infrastructure.”

“Since day one, I’ve worked across the aisle with local, state, and federal officials to make these critical investments in infrastructure that strengthen our communities, grow our economy, and create jobs. The provisions I authored in this legislation continue that commitment to delivering results for the Hudson Valley,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. “I’m happy that these provisions have been passed because each of them will make life better for my neighbors in the Hudson Valley.”
